- Brad Feld, Managing Director Brad has been an early stage investor and entrepreneur for over 20 years. Prior to co-founding Foundry Group, he co-founded Mobius Venture Capital and, prior to that, founded Intensity Ventures, a company that helped launch and operate software companies and later became a venture affiliate of the predecessor to Mobius Venture Capital. Previously, Brad served as chief technology officer of AmeriData Technologies. AmeriData acquired Feld Technologies, a firm he founded in 1987 that specialized in custom software applications. Brad had grown Feld Technologies into one of Boston’s leading software consulting firms prior to the acquisition. He also directed the diversification into software consulting at AmeriData, a $1.5 billion publicly-traded company which was acquired by GE Capital in 1995. Brad currently serves on the board of directors of a number of private companies, including Gold Systems, Judy’s Book, NewsGator, Rally Software, and StillSecure. In addition to his investing efforts, Brad has been active with several non-profit organizations and currently is chairman of the National Center for Women & Information Technology and sits on the boards of the Community Foundation Serving Boulder Country and the Colorado Conservation Trust. He has previously been a member of the board of directors of the Young Entrepreneurs Organization and he founded the Boston and Colorado chapters. Brad is a nationally recognized speaker on the topics of venture capital investing and entrepreneurship and writes widely read and well respected blogs at www.feld.com and www.askthevc.com. Brad holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Management Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Brad is also an avid art collector and long-distance runner. He has completed eight marathons as part of his mission to run a marathon in each of the 50 states. Seth’s career spans venture capital investing as well as operational, transactional and advisory roles at both public and private companies. Prior to co-founding Foundry Group, Seth began his venture capital career at Mobius Venture Capital. Prior to Mobius Venture Capital, Seth joined a restart of the data communications company, FirstWorld Communications. He was the third employee of a new management team with a goal to transition what had been a traditional competitive local exchange carrier (“CLEC”) into the data and Internet world. Seth was the corporate finance half of the CFO position where he started and led the finance, mergers and acquisitions and investor relations groups. Seth then led the IPO process for FirstWorld’s IPO in 2000 and negotiated simultaneous equity investments from Microsoft, SAIC and Lucent Technologies, eventually raising over $260 million from the IPO and these side-by-side equity transactions. When the company decided to focus on its data center and hosting business, Seth assumed operational control of the remainder of the business and led the Internet service provider, telephony and network integration portions of the company, representing in total approximately $40 million in revenue. He managed the sale of these lines of business in 2001. Prior to joining FirstWorld, Seth joined the business development group of ICG Communications, a Colorado-based CLEC where he led their mergers and acquisitions practice and worked on strategic partnerships. Previously, he was an investment banker in Morgan Stanley’s telecommunications corporate finance practice, where Seth completed numerous equity, debt, restructurings, mergers and acquisitions assignments. He currently serves on the boards of several private companies, including Atreus Systems, AuctionDrop, Klocwork, Newmerix, and Quova Seth is a summa cum laude graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is active throughout the entrepreneurial community in Colorado. Seth is a member of the board of CU Denver’s Bard Center for Entrepreneurship, chair of the award committee for the Boulder Chamber of Commerce ESPRIT Awards, and a member of the advisory board of High Country Ventures, a fund hired by the State of Colorado to invest money generated from certain tax credits in early stage companies across the state. Seth was previously a member of the board of the Denver chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth. Seth is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys spending his free time mountain biking, snowboarding and mountaineering, as well as spending time with his family. He writes a blog on technology, investing and living in Colorado at sethlevine.typepad.com. Ryan has been an early stage investor and entrepreneur for over 14 years. Prior to co-founding Foundry Group, Ryan started his career in venture capital at Mobius Venture Capital. Prior to joining Mobius Venture Capital, Ryan co-founded Excite in 1993, which went public in 1996 and later became Excite@Home following the $6.7 billion merger of Excite and @Home in 1999. At the time this acquisition was the largest internet transaction to date and created a company that achieved peak revenues of $616 million in 2000. There Ryan held the role of Principal Engineer and was a key technological contributor to the company’s search engine and content management systems and also led the design and implementation of Excite’s community and commerce platforms. Ryan was also responsible for integrating engineering teams and technologies into Excite’s infrastructure following the acquisitions of several companies based in Seattle and Austin. Prior to Excite, Ryan was a member of the technical staff for the Hewlett Packard Division at Oracle Corporation, where he worked on several releases of the Oracle Office platform. Before joining Oracle, Ryan was a software engineer at Canon Research of America, where he focused on the development of optical character recognition algorithms. Ryan currently serves on the boards of several private companies including Akustica, Glimmerglass, Postini, Sling Media, Technorati and Xythos. Ryan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Symbolic Systems with a concentration in Artificial Intelligence from Stanford University. While at Stanford, he published research on genetic algorithms in The First IEEE Conference on Evolutionary Computation, and studied abroad at Stanford's overseas campus in Berlin, Germany. Ryan is an avid guitarist and songwriter and operates a recording studio in his home, has brewed his own beer, runs the occasional marathon (1996 San Francisco marathon and the 2003 Portland marathon), and spends hours playing around with as many electronic gadgets he can get his hands on. Prior to co-founding Foundry Group, Jason was a Managing Director and General Counsel for Mobius Venture Capital, where he also acted as its chief administrative partner overseeing all operations of the firm.
While at Mobius Venture Capital, Jason has been actively involved in serving on boards of portfolio companies and the negotiations and structuring of all financings, mergers and exits in the portfolio. He has also gained valuable experience as a restructuring expert during the challenging "Internet bubble" time period.
He currently serves on the board of directors or as an observer of a number of private companies, including Accelergy, and eCast.
Prior to his involvement with Mobius Venture Capital, Jason was an attorney with Cooley Godward Kronish LLP, where he practiced corporate and securities law with an emphasis on representation of emerging companies in private and public financings, mergers and acquisitions. As an attorney, Jason has consummated over $2 billion of venture capital investments, $5 billion in mergers and has extensive experience in fund formation, employment law and general litigation, serving as an expert witness in these related fields.
Jason previously was a senior consultant and software engineer at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) where he focused on financial institution re-engineering engagements. While at Accenture, Jason supervised programming teams up to 40 people in size and was responsible for managing deliverables in multi-billion dollar engagements.
As one of the first full-time, in-house general counsels at a venture capital firm, Jason has been on the forefront of thought leadership and has co-chaired the National Venture Capital Association's General Counsel group and is an active participant on the NVCA's Chief Financial Officer group. He was one of the key draftspersons for the NVCA model document task force which created the industry's first set of standardized venture capital financing documents, which has greatly aided in the efficiency of completing these types of deals.
Jason holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, with distinction and a Juris Doctorate, cum laude from the University of Michigan.
